Tomorrow is Mother’s Day.

For some, it’s a day filled with love, laughter, and time spent with family.
For others, it’s a quiet ache – a reminder of a mother who is no longer here, a child not held, or the dream of motherhood that never came to be.

At Best Body, we want to honour all of it.

I was lucky.
I had the best mum on the planet.

She was a nurse for 40 years, a mother of four, and one of the kindest, most giving souls I’ve ever known. I remember watching her head out on weekends to deliver homemade soup to people in palliative care – giving warmth to people most had forgotten. And she’d still come home and ask how our day was.

She gave everything.
Unconditionally.
Even when I didn’t make it easy as a teenager.
Even when she was exhausted.
Even when she was grieving the loss of her own mother – my Nan.

That grief hit her hard.
She lost her best friend, her greatest support, and a lifetime of unspoken understanding.
And after years of putting everyone else first, her own health started to slip.

She didn’t see self-care as a strength.
She saw it as a luxury.
Something you “earn” after taking care of everyone else.
Or worse – something selfish.

I believe that mindset cost my Nan years she could have had. She was told to rest. To take it easy. To slow down. She followed the medical advice of the time… and ended up living a largely sedentary life. She eventually passed from two types of cancer that are strongly correlated with inactivity. I often wonder:
What if she had been encouraged to move more?
To put herself first for once?

And I believe it cost my mum too.
Not just physically – but emotionally.
Because when the strongest person in your life breaks down, it leaves a hole nothing else can fill.

That’s why we do what we do at Best Body.

We’re here to help every mother – and every woman who mothers in her own way – put herself first.
To move better.
To live better.
To feel strong enough to do the things she loves with the people she loves most.

We believe self-care isn’t selfish.
It’s generational leadership.
Because when one woman chooses to prioritise her wellbeing, her partner, children, and even grandchildren follow her lead.

We’re on a mission to rewrite what it means to be a mother in this world –
Not someone who burns herself out for everyone else,
But someone who glows from the inside out, because she knows:
She’s worth it.

So if this Mother’s Day is joyful – we celebrate with you.
If it’s painful – we hold space for you.
And if it’s complicated – we understand.

But above all, we hope it’s a moment to stop, breathe, and remember:

You matter.
You’ve always mattered.
And your self-care is not a weakness.
It’s your superpower.

With love,
Scott Wescombe
